Acupressure
Acupressure is a non-invasive technique utilizing acupuncture points and physical pressure applied to them. This technique can be very effective especially for stress relief, relaxation, nausea, vomiting and low back pain.
We offer two types of acupressure at this time: Shiatsu Massage and Jin Shin Do. For both therapies you relax comfortably on a massage table while wearing loose, comfortable clothing.
Shiatsu massage is a Japanese technique that originated in Japan in the 1950's. It uses joint rotations, stretches, deep breathing, compression, and finger pressure to regulate the energy channels (meridians) described in acupuncture theory. Shiatsu can be done as a full-body treatment, stimulating the meridians on the head, neck, upper chest, arms, hands, legs, back, hips, legs, and feet. Or, it can focus on a particular area of distress and other related areas. Shiatsu is both relaxing and energizing. Generally, up to 20 seconds is spent on each pressure point.
Jin Shin Do is an acupressure technique developed in the U.S. in the 1980's by Iona Teeguarden. In this modality acupuncture points are pressed and held for up to 10 minutes each. In each session up to 5-6 points may be used. This therapy is takes you deep into yourself for healing, regeneration, and relaxation. Beautiful insights can emerge while stress, strain, tension, and anxiety dissipate. Powerful releases can occur which transform the emotional and physical reality in which you live. This is a slow moving technique, but when things move, they really move.
