Telemedicine Virtual Visits : What to Expect

Have you ever experienced a Virtual Telemedicine Visit? Vivian Tiegen, RDN, has been doing them for many years. It has become more commonplace and often required during the COVID 19 Pandemic. We understand that this may be new for some of you.
Here are some common questions and answers about Telemedicine with Vivian Tiegen, RDN:
-
Are Calls and Video Conferences Private and Secure?
Yes. Privacy is Very Important to Us.
We offer a HIPAA Secure conferencing link from Doxy.me. No app needed.
Just paste this web address in your smart phone, tablet or computer browser.
doxy.me/vtiegen
You will enter a virtual waiting room and Vivian will meet you there and welcome you into your session
Requirements are: an updated browser and a device with a microphone and camera
-
May I use Facetime, Skype, Zoom instead of Doxy.me.
Yes, you may, but they are NOT certified as HIPAA Approved and therefore there is no guaranteed privacy on these. Some people aren't able to use the doxy.me web address so choose to use these.
-
I am uncomfortable with video and I am not so good with high tech, may I use a phone only?
Yes. We understand. Phone is fine. They are not considered HIPAA secure but we don't have any issues with them. You can use doxy.me/vtiegen with audio only too. We do enjoy seeing our patients, but we know some of you are shy.
-
How will I complete my paperwork?
We will send you your paperwork via email or by mail prior to your appointment. We ask that you return it to us, email it or mail it prior to your first appointment. Forms are also available in the FAQs section of our
website.
-
How will I pay for my session?
We will call you prior to your session to collect pre-payment via credit or debit card. If you don't have a card, you can mail a check or money order ahead of time. We can also make arrangements using VENMO or Paypal. We offer discounted prepaid packages for multiple visits to make things easier.
-
I have a difficult time remembering everything that is discussed at a visit. Will I receive any handouts or written plans?
In most cases, you will receive a follow up email after your telemedicine visit that summarizes the session
and includes handouts, plans, links to articles and more that will work with your plan. We will send you suggestions for supplements and provide assistance for ordering the best quality ones via phone or internet.
-
May I use Telemedicine with Medicare visits?
Medicare is permitting Telemedicine visits during the COVID 19 Pandemic. We are waiting to hear more
about how long they will be permitting this.
