Losing Weight... A New Integrative Approach!

It's a New Year and once again our thoughts are turning to the ever-eternal "New Year's Resolutions." On the top of many  lists...Losing Weight and Keeping It Off !

To share a secret that many of you already know... permanent, healthy weight loss is achievable, but it is not as simple as most advertising, internet sites,TV Doctors and magazine covers would suggest.

Most of us know what to do to lose weight. Most of us need help doing it .Changing eating and exercise habits can be a challenge.

Let's face it, it's a jungle out there. There is a "mine-field" of  salty, sugary, and greasy foods....all carefully formulated by taste scientists working for "Big Food" to be cheap, quick, foodie/gourmet appealing, and gluten-free !

Most of us,  along with the media, our family, coworkers, friends, and sometimes health care professionals blame the overweight person for their "failure" to have the the perfect weight, flat belly, etc. Yes, there is a large degree of self motivation  and personal responsibility involved in losing  and maintaining a healthy weight, but that is only part of the picture. There are genetic, cultural, emotional, energetic, and biochemical factors that also infuence one's weight, body shape, cravings, and nutritional needs. Obesity is now classified as a disease by the American Medical Association....a disease...not a character disorder.

The Good News....

Healthy weight loss is possible, but for many, it takes a variety of approaches...a healthy, whole foods diet with portion control and physicial activity are always part of it, but there is more.

At  Acupuncture and Anti-Aging Physicians Group (AAPG) in Jupiter, Florida, we understand the complexity of weight management. We use a  natural, drug-free approach that includes a variety of nutrition and complementary medicine therapies.

As the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)  and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) at AAPG, I will help you create a plan that meets your health and lifestyle goals as well as your desire to lose weight.  I have a toolbox of approaches for people wanting to lose weight. These include "Clean Eating", Calorie and Portion Control, Low Glycemic Foods,  Anti-Inflammatory Foods, Meal Timing Strategies, Medical Food Supplements, Easy Recipe and Cooking Advice,  Exercise Planning, Food Shopping Guidance, and Travel and Restaurant Eating Strategies.  Modifications are made for people with Diabetes, Digestive Issues, Kidney Disease, and other health issues. Myself, along with our Acupuncture Physicians, Dr. Richard Tiegen and Dr. Shams Wesley, provide you with a variety of treatments that treat the whole person. These include acupuncture, needle-free acupressure, stress reduction treatment techniques, and motivational counseling.

Optional blood tests used to investigate functional nutrition deficiencies, food sensitivites, and genetics may be suggested.  Results of these tests are used to create a "personalized" eating and nutrition plan.

My services are available alone or as part of the Acupuncture and Anti-Aging Physician Group's unique "Integrative Weight Loss" Packages. These 12-Week packages are designed to  include acupuncture and/or needle-free acupressure, and other optional services along with weekly treatments and support. In addition, our packages include an optional  monthly Weight Loss Education and Support Group.
